Tympanoplasty

A tympanoplasty is the general term for any procedure that performs work on both the ear drum and middle ear space. There are various subtypes of tympanoplasty, however, the most commonly performed tympanoplasty is for eardrum perforations. For individuals suffering with recurrent ear infections or hearing loss as a result of perforation in the eardrum, a tympanoplasty can be performed to reconstruct the eardrum. This can result in improvements in hearing and a decreased tendency towards ear infections as it prevents water from entering the middle ear space.
