Septoplasty

Nasal obstruction can cause significant difficulty breathing at night, leading to difficulty sleeping and mild forms of sleep apnea. It can also cause significant resistance to CPAP airflow, making it very difficult to tolerate.

Despite using nasal steroid sprays, decongestants, antihistamines, many patients do not achieve relief from their nasal obstruction. The culprit in certain cases may be deviated septum -causing blockage of nasal airflow.

A septoplasty is an office procedure designed to correct nasal obstruction resulting from a deviated nasal septum. This procedure can be performed under local anesthesia.
The principle behind a septoplasty is straightforward: to restore proper airflow via the nasal passage by removing anatomic obstructions. This results in decreased nasal obstruction. Everything is done through the nose, therefore, the patient does not have any visible incisions or bruising after surgery.
At GNO Snoring & Sinus we do NOT use nasal packing. It only adds to patient discomfort and is therefore not part of our procedure.

The recovery time from a septoplasty is quite short. Patients can expect some minor nasal congestion due to swelling but can return to work in a few days. Patients are routinely seen about 1 week afterwards.
